About the Program:

One of the central themes of the Montessori philosophy is the connection with the natural world of the outdoors. The children have the daily opportunity to experience the outdoors with structure and purpose. They learn how to use their hands in everyday endeavors focused on the earth.

In the Vegetable garden – Children can discover where food comes from as well as discovering and trying new foods. Planting seeds taken from the foods in their snack, the children plant those same seeds, care and cultivate them until harvest.
After Harvest, Chef Richard will teach them ways to prepare the foods for their snack during cooking class. The scraps will be composted back into the garden and the seeds replanted to cycle again.
Emphasis will be not only on cultivation, and life science, but also on community cooperation, ecology and environmental stewardship.
