About the Program:

Gourmet  Garden Mission: Linking nutrition education, activity, and food through a school garden.
The mission of the garden is to create and sustain an organic garden and landscape that is wholly integrated into the foods and nutrition classes and in the future the school’s curriculum, culture, and food program.
The garden will involve students in all aspects of growing food and preparing, serving, and eating vegetables & fruits harvested in the garden, as a means of awakening their senses and encouraging awareness and appreciation of the transformative values of nourishment, community, and stewardship of the land.

Our organic garden is used as an extension to the kitchen lab and classroom, where students understand the importance of growing food from seed, tending to their plants and appreciating the effort and resources that go into producing food.

Students then plan meals and dishes based on ingredients that are ready to harvest. They thus learn the importance of eating according to the season and learning what grows in our southern Californian climate, the difference in winter and summer crops.
