About the Program:

The goal of the garden project is to transform a wasted courtyard space into a vegetable garden and native plant nursery for curriculum-based education and extracurricular enrichment. In addition to hands-on gardening skills, nutrition and sustainability, students will learn the importance of native-habitat restoration, ecology and resource management. The garden will allow produce to be donated to the Peoples Resource Center (PRC), a local organization that provides food to low-income families in our community. Whittier students will help deliver the fresh produce, creating a valuable opportunity for community-service-based learning and experience. Centrally located and visually prominent, the garden has the potential to become the verdant, beating heart of our school. It will provide our children a vibrant, hands-on, outdoor alternative to our society
