About the Program:

Our Mission: to enrich lives and build sustainable communities through hands-on experiences in gardens, farms and wild places.

We serve pre K-8 youth through partnerships with both public and private schools in rural Teton Valley, Idaho and Wyoming. We helped to design and build three comprehensice school gardens at Teton Valley Community School (private), Tetonia Elementary School (ID), Alta Elementary School (WY) and Victor Elementary School (ID). We collaborate with teachers and PTOs, providing both seasonal and year-round garden education. We also offer farm-based education on a handful of local organic farms to schools and other programs that do not have on-site gardens.

Mountain Roots Education envisions a world where people of all ages develop a deep understanding of the natural systems that support life. We bring our students outside to the garden with a purpose: to inspire a love of learning by connecting children to the full-circle experience of growing their own food. Enter our school gardens and you will find students, from all walks of life, cultivating a joyful appreciation for the fruits of their labor:  harvesting school grown greens for the cafeteria, participating in farm chores, collecting and saving seeds, investigating compost piles, and more.
