The Edible Education 101 course was created in conjunction with the 40th anniversary celebration of Chez Panisse Restaurant and Café in Berkeley, California. Alice Waters, founder of Chez Panisse and the Edible Schoolyard Project, launched the course in partnership with University of California, Berkeley to bring edible education to the university level. The course, a unique hybrid public lecture series and for-credit class, has been offered to undergraduate students and members of the general public for four semesters since 2011.

The 2017 course was co-hosted by Will Rosenzweig, a Fellow at the Institute for Business and Social Impact at BerkeleyHaas, and Alice Waters.

Lecturer

David Mas Masumoto is an organic peach and grape farmer and the author of nine  books including: Epitaph for a PeachWisdom of the Last FarmerHeirloomsLetters to the ValleyFour Seasons in Five SensesHarvest SonCountry Voices, and Silent Strength. He, along with his wife, Marcy, and daughter, Nikiko, published a family farm cookbook, The Perfect Peach in 2013. A feature documentary, Changing Season, about the theme of succession on a family farm, is being featured at film festivals and nationally broadcast by PBS in May, 2016.
