About the Program:

The World Food System Summer School has been running for 3 years and has an international pool of 100 alumni from 40 countries. The mission of the program is to create a global network of young leaders who have the knowledge and skills necessary to create positive change in their food system. We do this by offering a platform for experiential learning in culturally diverse and interdisciplinary settings that take systems approaches to addressing food, agriculture and nutrition challenges. The target group is university students (undergraduate and postgraduate) who are brought together from around the world for an intensive two week summer school on an organic farm in Switzerland. The course includes a range of teaching methods, from field work on the farm, a kitchen classroom, excursions, group work, role plays, lectures, workshops and case studies. In addition to this program, our center will soon start a greenhouse based learning program for public high school students in Zurich. This project will translate university research and practice into a garden and kitchen classroom for high school students. Further to this, I am working privately on a school feeding and education program with a public primary school (Lihanda Primary) Western Kenya. The ESY Academy seems to be the perfect platform to learn all I can to enrich these various programs.
