About the Program:

We serve all students in Port Townsend school district, approximately 1,110 students. Our values include place-based learning with hands in the dirt and cooking with whole foods. We support our learners in exploring nutrition education, plant-based science and real food as a tool for teamwork, health and holistic wellness. Ultimately, we teach respect for the gardens and for each other by guiding our students to become stewards of the Earth and their community.

Recently, we pushed to utilize as much food from our gardens in the school lunch program as possible; with a new Director of Food Service this vision is moving towards a reality. We have an amazing community of volunteers, and just passed a bond for a new elementary school. We want to expand our school staff to move forward with the K-12 Farm to School framework, especially in light of the new building with wider garden & kitchen possibilities.

We hope to be accepted to ESYI in order to learn how to create a food and health framework for our entire curriculum -- as a foundation to everything that is taught/learned. The time is now ripe to move forward and build a district-wide program!
