We call ourselves The Edible Era Scholars! We are trying to reform our lunches! We are currently working on a Lunch Lab. Once a week during our Independent Reading class we will be making a healthy and delicious lunch! We will be reading about different countries and making the foods that demonstrate their cultures. Last week we served Ms. Alice Waters some of our homemade Ethiopian Collard Green Egg Rolls and learned about Ethiopia. We also served Ms. Waters some of our Dr. George Washington Carver's Sweet Potato crescent moons and learned about Dr. Carver and crescent moons.
We are writing a cookbook that has all our secret recipes to share with everyone! We use all local ingredients from nearby farms! We have planted an herb garden to flavor all our food all year round.
Ms. Jennifer Crisp is the Chef that will be running the Lunch Lab. Ms. Jessica Aikens is our Science teacher who collaborates with Chef Crisp on our garden lesson plans.
On September 20, 2012, Ms. Alice Waters visited our school!! We had a Garden Party. We were so excited! She gave us fruit trees and we planted them all! We have so much fun in the garden and will soon be planting garlic! We incorporate all curriculum subjects in our Lunch Lab. We are thankful and so excited about all the attention Ms. Waters gave our school! We will not let her down. We have so much planned for ourselves and our Edible Era Scholars Lunch Lab. Next stop to reform the cafeteria lunches all over!!
Herbally Yours,
The Edible Era Scholars
