About the Program:

Bigfork School District is a service site partner with the national service organization, FoodCorps. Bigfork School District started building the school garden in 2012. A FoodCorps service member joined the Northshore Compact in Flathead Valley, Montana, in 2013 to work with three area middle schools. Among the three, the service member serves in nutrition classes, school gardens and farm to school procurement.

Bigfork School District has a large school garden for students to plant, tend and harvest vegetables. We believe a school garden provides an outdoor classroom that is a great educational tool for learning where whole, clean food comes from. The garden provides a space to teach lessons about gardening, plant life and agriculture, making healthier food choices, composting, responsibility, community and more. The garden cultivates curiosity and exploration.
