This workshop will showcase the Oakland Rain Barrel Program's (ORBP) cistern project at Skyline High School as a model of large scale rainwater harvesting in public schools, and will instruct the full range of rainwater harvesting that can be applied to any school, from 50 gallon barrels to 620 gallon tanks and cisterns. It will be hosted by Skyline High School, where two 2,825 gallon tanks are housed, and will be led by ORBP subcontracted partners, DIG Cooperative Inc. and the Watershed Project.
We are holding this educational event to support the practice of rain harvesting and watershed stewardship for Oakland Unified Schools, residents and other organizations.
In this free, three hour workshop, the first hour will overview the fundamentals of rainwater catchment with rain tanks and gardens, followed by a tour of the built system at the facility for the second hour. The last hour will be a hands-on session for technical support, featuring tools, products and more for those seeking more knowledge in this area, as well as a breakout discussion group.
