The summer of 2012 will mark the fourth annual Academy at the Edible Schoolyard. This training program is designed to support emerging and established garden and kitchen programs nationwide. Led by Edible Schoolyard staff and guest presenters, the Academy provides a three-day immersion in the practices and philosophy of the Edible Schoolyard. Through hands-on activities, presentations, guided discussion and curriculum-building sessions, participants learn the tools of edible education -- an integrated approach to education in the garden, kitchen and classroom.

Sunday, June 24th: The Academy begins at 3:00 pm with registration and a welcome reception at the Edible Schoolyard. Enjoy light refreshments, go on a tour of the Edible Schoolyard, meet fellow participants and Academy staff, and receive your program curriculum binder. The reception will end at 5:30 pm.
Monday, June 25th - Wednesday, June 27th: Each day of Academy programming will begin with breakfast at 8:00 am. Participants are divided into three cohorts of 30 participants, and over the course of the Academy each cohort will spend one day focused on garden programming, one day focused on kitchen programming, and one day focused on organizational development. Lunch is served at midday, and there is open time in each programming day for participants to engage with each other along with Edible Schoolyard staff. Programming ends at 4:00 pm on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Informal interest-group dinners are often organized at local restaurants in the evenings.
Over the course of the Academy, participants will have an opportunity to learn about curriculum integration and development, funding strategies, volunteer management, class scheduling, rituals and routines of garden and kitchen classrooms, outreach strategies, and much more. Participants will leave the Academy with garden and kitchen lessons linked to academic standards, tools for developing programs in their own communities and strategies to strengthen existing programs, and an in-depth understanding of how the Edible Schoolyard operates on a daily basis. Finally, participants join a network of people all over the world who are engaged in bringing edible education programs to their communities.
